Papal Rome, Papacy

Definitions:

Papal Rome: pope's secular & religious jurisdiction over Rome.

Pagan Rome: Rome before papal influence.

Papacy: The office of the pope.

In Daniel 7:8, papal Rome is represented by the little horn growing out of the fourth beast.

• In AD 538, papal Rome received its seat in Vatican. Before which, Heruli (AD 493), Vandal (AD 534), and Ostrogoth (AD 538) were kicked out.

  
  

In Daniel 8, pagan Rome is represented by the little horn that came out of the he goat.

• pagan Rome is represented as a little horn that came out of one of the four horns.

• In AD 168, pagan Rome defeated Macedon in the Battle of Pydna. Thus, out of the west horn came forth the little horn.

In Revelation 12, pagan Rome is represented by the great red dragon.

• In AD 168, pagan Rome was represented as little horn because the other horns of the he goat still existed. Pagan Rome since then went on to defeat Syria in 65 BC, Judea in 63 BC and Egypt in 31 BC at the battle of Actium.

• Ever since 31 BC, Augustus Caesar defeated all the remnants of Alexander's kingdom. Hence it can no longer be described by a horn on the he goat, but a separate beast itself.

  
  

In Revelation 13, papal Rome is represented by the beast that rose up out of the sea.

• When papal Rome received its seat in Vatican in 538 AD, the pope had very little power. Belisarius, a general of the Eastern Roman Emperor Justinian, got rid of a pope and picked one of his liking.

• So when the pope gets picked by others it is still a little horn.

• However, as time passed, papacy became more powerful than kings of Europe. Then it would be rightly represented by a beast.

In Revelation 13:3,12, Papal Rome receives a deadly wound. Meaning, the Papacy loses its secular influence and religious influence. The healing of the deadly wound means while the secular power of the pope is lost,  the religious influence of the pope is restored. However, the papacy no longer retains its secular influence in that it does not own its own military.

In Revelation 17:4-5, the Roman Catholic Church headed by the pope is represented by the great whore.

• "And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: And upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH." Revelation 17:4-5

In Revelation 17, the secular powers of the old divided Roman empire is described by the beast with 7 heads and 10 horns. 7 heads being 7 sequential forms of Roman government, and 10 horns being 10 contemporary monarchies of the present day divided Rome.

In Revelation 17, the United Nations is being represented by the waters which the woman sits upon. "The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues." Revelation 17:15

Additional Facts:

• The horns on the beast vary in sizes.

• The horns on the beast comes out at different times.

• At different point in history, there are different number of horns on a beast. It can go from 10 to 7 to 8 to 12 to 11 to 10 etc...
