Another serpent on a tree

Resting upon the tree of knowledge of good and evil is "that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world"(Revelation 12:9). We all know him too well. But who we do not know too well is a different serpent, resting upon a different tree, desperately trying to draw our attention to Him? You see, Christ had to die on the cross because of us. If man will hear that crooked serpent on the tree, and die, then let man look to the serpent on the cross and live!

  • "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree" (Galatians 3:13).

  • "And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up" (John 3:14)

  • "For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." 2 Corinthians 5:21

Can you see God's desperation on the cross?

Can you see God's condescension on the cross?

Can you see God's humiliation on the cross?

"To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts!" Let us turn from the tree of knowledge and eat the leaves from the tree of life and be healed!

The 2 signs of Moses foreshadowed the cross: 1) serpent (Christ) and 2) leprosy (taking on our sins).
