Part VIII: True witness vs False witnesses

True Witness Acts 7:45:

"Which also our fathers that came after brought in with Jesus into the possession of the Gentiles, whom God drave out before the face of our fathers, unto the days of David"

  • At the time when the possession of the Gentiles first came into the hand of the children of Israel, Moses was still alive and Joshua was not the leader. For it is written: "Them did Moses the servant of the LORD and the children of Israel smite: and Moses the servant of the LORD gave it for a possession unto the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh." Joshua 12:1

  • This same Jesus gave command to Joshua after Moses' death: "And the captain of the LORD'S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so." Joshua 5:15

  • So it was Jesus, not Joshua that gave into the hands of Israel the possession of the Gentiles.

False Witness:

NIV: "After receiving the tabernacle, our ancestors under Joshua brought it with them when they took the land from the nations God drove out before them. It remained in the land until the time of David,"

NKJV: "which our fathers, having received it in turn, also brought with Joshua into the land possessed by the Gentiles, whom God drove out before the face of our fathers until the days of David"

NLT: "Years later, when Joshua led our ancestors in battle against the nations that God drove out of this land, the Tabernacle was taken with them into their new territory. And it stayed there until the time of King David."

ESV: "Our fathers in turn brought it in with Joshua when they dispossessed the nations that God drove out before our fathers. So it was until the days of David."

NASB: "Our fathers in turn received it, and they also brought it in with Joshua upon dispossessing the nations that God drove out from our fathers, until the time of David.."

  • Joshua was still serving under Moses when the children of Israel came into the promised land.
